Defense Grid: The Awakening Review
Defense Grid: The Awakening is a tower defense game developed by Hidden Path Entertainment. The game was originally released back in December of 2008 for the PC, but thankfully Microsoft was able to get them adapt it for the Xbox360 this September. The game costs 800 Microsoft (MS) points or $10 for those that don’t feel like doing the conversion. I will tell you right now: the game is way more than worth it.
If you haven’t heard of what a defense game is then I suggest you immediately stop what you’re doing and go on over to www.kongregate.com and checkout Desktop Tower Defense, the ultimate granddaddy of all defense games. Ok now that we are all on the same page, I shall continue. Defense Grid plays out like most defense games: gather resources, build towers, and kill the enemy before it destroys your base. However, unlike other defense games, Defense Grid actually contains a decent storyline that boasts 10+ hours of game play. The Xbox version also includes four bonus borderland maps for a grand total of 24 levels. In addition to the story, there are over a hundred different challenges you can unlock. This makes for one jam -packed defense game good for hours of fun. And, unlike all the other flash-based defense games, Defense Grid has gorgeous HD graphics. No to mention 200 achievement points to unlock.
All in all, Defense Grid: The Awakening is easily worth $60, the normal going-rate of games these days. Thankfully for Xbox 360 owners, we can download it off the Xbox Live Market Place for a meager $10. The bottom line is this: if you have ever enjoyed a defense game and you own an Xbox 360, get this game right away.
